WESTERN SICILY TOUR
From the Faculty of Arts we present you
“A Medieval Study Tour Through the South West of Sicily”
Tour dates: 5-10 May 2018
This year’s much anticipated Mediterranean Study Tour will be taking participants through a medieval journey across the west of Sicily. The tour will be held between the 5th and 10th of May and will the group exploring the Val di Mazara together with Maritime Archaeologist Professor Timmy Gambin, Dr Charlene Vella, Late Medieval and Renaissance Art Historian and Medieval Historian Dr Mark Anthony Aloisio. Specialised visits will take place in Alcamo, Selinunte, Castelvetrano, Sciacca, Caltabellotta, Motya, Marsala, Trapani and Mazara.
The tour is open to anybody who would like to visit cultural sites and with a keen interest in archaeology, history and art.

Sunday 5 May –
AirMalta flight KM 662 to Palermo departure 21:00 arrival 21:50. Afternoon Alcamo, Hotel Centrale
Monday 6 May
Morning Selinunte visiting archaeological area. Afternoon Castelvetrano: Santissima Trinità di Delia, Church of San Domenico, Cave di Cosa
Tuesday 7 May
Morning Sciacca: walking tour, Palazzo Sterepinto, Castello Luna. Afternoon Caltabellotta: Castello del Conte Luna, ancient thermal caves of San Calogero, cathedral, remains of the Castello del Conte Luna
Wednesday 8 May
Morning Boat to Mothya: Giuseppe Whitaker museum, tophet and harbour. Afternoon Marsala: Museo Baglio Anselmi, late medieval city gates, Chiesa Santa Maria della Grotta, Church of Santa Maria dell’Itria
Thursday 9 May
Morning Trapani: Museo Pepoli, Santuario di Maria Santissima Annunziata. Afternoon Mazara del Vallo: Museo del Satiro (statue), kasbah, San Nicolò Regale (exterior only)
Friday 10 May
Morning Alcamo – walking tour, Castle of the Counts of Modica, Chiesa Madre. Transfer to Palermo airport for Airmalta flight KM 663 departure 14:25 arrival 15:15
